I’ve written a lot of posts a long the lines of “theme update” because I love designing and developing new themes for my blog. With this latest theme I’ve added a couple more design features that I feel have improved the feel of this website a lot.
Here’s what I’ve done in this new theme:
- Employed a very clean theme with lots of padding and spacing.
- I’ve used subtle textured backgrounds for the background and headers.
- I’m using sIFR for my headings, this means I can use custom fonts.
- The colours and themes are similar to Clear:Both for a universal house style.
- I’ve emphases the comments section inside of posts.
- The number of comments for a post is displayed on the homepage.
- I’m now using page numbers for navigation through this blog.
That’s all well and good, however the design is not perfect. Older posts that were designed when I used wide content areas which have large pictures/videos embedded into them may look out of place and may push the sidebar down, so those posts need to be edited.
That’s about it for the web developing side of my life; I’ve been really busy lately so I’ve been unable, (and unmotivated), to post on my blog so I apologise for that however I may be posting a blessay within the next week because a lot has happened lately.
Update 11th March 2010
I’ve got a few things fixed since yesterday; I’ve fixed the latest posts that were set to work with the old wider theme so now nothing should be pushed off the edge of the page. I’ve also now made the theme compatible with Internet Explorer 6 so that’s all sorted. I’ve fixed an issue that caused page numbers to appear on single posts and pages.
Oh and I’ve also changed the headings to gracefully download for visitors who don’t have Flash, (which isn’t many, but it effects iPhones). Speaking of iPhones I’ve activated this wonderful plugin that makes my blog beautiful and specifically made for the iPhone Safari browser which uses AJAX to make it work brilliantly.
Even though I have fixed a lot of errors, there may still be some bugs around that I have missed, (most likely ones connected to Internet Explorer 6), so if you don’t find any bugs then please do post a comment and I’ll get it fixed as soon as I can.
Hopefully see you soon, Steven; Administrator.

Once again I’ve been working on another new Wordpress theme for my lovely Blog. If you’ve read this post within the past three hours, then you were viewing it through the Beta version of this theme, but after some tweaking and some extra code, I think I’m 99% done. I still need to add some code to re-direct Internet Explorer 6 users to an upgrade page. Seeing as it’s a personal Blog, a little bit of re-direction won’t be frowned upon.
I hope you like this theme, if you do come across any bugs or something that doesn’t visually look right, then please don’t hesitate to email mail@stevenknight.info, any feedback is appreciated.
In other news, today has been one that I didn’t expect. Lori, who I haven’t spoken to in months, has got it into her head that I’ve been sending her anonymous texts for months criticising her new relationship. Right, couple of things there; a) I gave up on her quite some time ago b) If I wanted to criticise her, I wouldn’t be anonymous about it. I’ve always been vocal in anything I have to say, especially to her. I doubt that she’ll get this thought out of her head anytime soon and I probably haven’t heard the last of it either.
Anyway; enough about myself. I think after a long days coding, that it is time to have some well deserved sleep, ready for another day of 6th Form tomorrow. Good night.
Update 08/10/2009
I made few graphical tweaks and additions in the form of the icon links at the top right as well as an image next to the header logo that shows the version number of this Blog – we’re now at version four! I think the green goes with the orange nicely. Oh and I’ve also replaced the latest Tweets header. Okay, now I’ve got it to work with Internet Explorer 6 despite that I said I wouldn’t bother – they’ve lost Gravitar privileges because I couldn’t work out how to fix them properly, oh well it’s still 99% working for them.

I’m really sorry for not updating that much lately, contrary to what you may think, (based on reasons I’ve given in the past), I don’t have any exams, I’m not on holiday; in fact, I should be blogging more because I’m on my summer holidays, which by the way, aren’t all they’re cracked up to be – it’s too hot, but I like the rain when it comes.
Anyway, I’ll tell you why I haven’t been around much: I’ve been working on Clear:Both. Those of you who know me may think “Is he still working on that?”, and the answer is yes, of course I am, these things take time. For those of you who don’t know, Clear:Both is my web developing freelance company that I’m slowly setting up. I’m currently working on the final theme for it, (which is taking me a long time), I’ve gone through many ideas and revisions but now I finally know what I want and I’m heading in that direction right now. I’ve also set up a little server for me to do all my projects on locally as not to make it public yet.
You can expect a live preview sometime this week: but only if I feel like it’s ready.
Updated: 29th of July 2009
Just a small update to this blog post that I made a week ago; you can now view a demo of Clear:Both amongst other related things, here’s a list of what you can explorer:
I hope you like what you see, I’ve been spending ages tweaking the site to be just how I wanted it to be; things that 99% of people wouldn’t notice like light brushes and pixels being moved around. I have even made the site Internet Explorer 6 compatible, which, by the way, wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be – a couple of transparent PNGs here and a few relative overflows there. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.

For those who know, I’m currently working on setting up my own web design company; for those who didn’t, now you know. Anyway, here’s the story: I got all the content done a while back but I’ve struggled with coming up with a brilliant new theme, finally a few days ago I decided to rustle something together and a few days later I have done the first draft. The second draft will come in a couple of days; and I’ll spend the next couple of months choosing the one that suits the company the best.
Anyway; click the screenshot above in order to see a larger version of it, or you can click the link below to view a live preview. Remember that it isn’t complete so some links may not work and pages may be incomplete. Also, it may not look the same on all browsers as of yet, obviously all these issues will be ironed out in due course.
Visit Clear:Both Draft V1
Links may longer work as of 31/01/10.

Just some updates I’ve been working on, here’s the list.
- Search box in the sidebar is now working, try it.
- Contact form has been added to the homepage with AJAX use.
- 404 error pages included for no search results or incorrect page reference.
- The comment box now includes a website input.
- Lightbox is now integrated so all my posts that include pictures after this one will be pretty.
- All pages i.e. Index, single pages, comment pages, etc are all consistent in there styling.
- The blog is now 100% XHTML and CSS valid.
- I’m now using proper Wordpress PHP so this theme can be reused.
If you come across any bugs, please contact me via the contact forum. Thank you.
